Nineteen Eighty-Four (Orwell) vs. Brave New World (Huxley)

cinderellainrubbershoes:

I wrote a paper comparing Brave New World and 1984 a couple of years ago and I’d agree with some of Postman’s comments. However, I believe that both Huxley and Orwell were right. Huxley focused on the development of society while Orwell was looking towards politics. One could argue that Huxley’s prophecy came about on a greater scale but I also feel like Brave New World never got quite as much attention as 1984. Who knows how much of an effect 1984 had on changing the course of history. I would make the argument that 1984 was one of the most influential books in the 20th century. However there are still signs of Orwell’s future in our current world of today.

Some of the many reasons I like (if that’s the right word) Brave New World 500% more than 1984.
